Orkney hopes to benefit from ‘staycation’ trend

A new campaign has been launched to make Orkney the first choice for UK holiday makers this year.

Launched by VisitScotland, in partnership with Orkney Islands Council, an extensive direct mail campaign is targeting 102,000 households throughout the UK and features the wide variety of activities on offer in Orkney. A national print and radio promotion as well as online activity and promotion through all VisitScotland Information Centres will also focus heavily on what Orkney has to offer and encourage more people to follow the trend of spending their holidays in the UK.

Head of strategic development and regeneration at the OIC, Evelyn Mathershaw, said: “Orkney has a world class tourist offering. We’re pleased that VisitScotland is launching this campaign, developed through joint working with the council and partners HIE and local tourism groups, to promote the high quality, unique island experiences which lay waiting for visitors to enjoy.”
