Orkney Ferries make contingency plan

Orkney Ferries have laid out a contingency plan for their North Isles sailings, this Sunday evening.

A contingency plan has been put in place in the event of excess passenger numbers for the 6pm sailing departing Westray, this Sunday, July 30.

With the Westray Regatta taking place this weekend, it is expected that there may be an excess of passengers travelling back from the island on Sunday evening.

Earl Thorfinn is scheduled to depart from Sanday at 5.40pm, this will now be delayed until 6pm, while the Varagen is scheduled to depart Westray at 6pm.

At around 5.55pm, the master of the Varagen will be able to access the situation and will then contact the master of the Earl Thorfinn to advise passenger numbers.

If passengers have had to be turned away, Earl Thorfinn will proceed to Westray to collect the excess passengers. If the Varagen has not reached maximum capacity, Earl Thorfinn will proceed directly to Kirkwall.  Â
