Orkney crewman in Atlantic firefighting salvage operation

An Orkney seaman is part of the crew of the former Coastguard charted tug Anglian Sovereign which is on the scene of a fire damaged container ship which is being towed back to Europe after a fire and explosion in the mid-Atlantic.

Tony Leask from Kirkwall is a crewman onboard the tug, which is one of three vessels which have been fighting the fire onboard the MSC Flaminia.

The crew of the ship were forced to abandon the vessel. One crewman died and another reported as missing.

SMIT salvage of Rotterdam are leading the salvage operation.
