Open day at new council homes in Holm

The OIC is hosting an open day at the new council homes in St Mary's Holm, next week.

Twelve new council homes in St Mary’s will be on show at an Open Day next Friday, January 13, from 11.30am to 2.30pm.

These latest houses take the total of new homes built by OIC in its current house building programme up to 56 — almost half way to the council’s target of 125 by 2013.

The new development of 12 bungalows, at the north end of the village, includes six two-bedroom homes, four three-bedroom homes and two wheelchair-accessible two-bedroom homes.

Chairman of the council’s social services and housing committee, Councillor Roderick McLeod, said: “It’s a pleasure to see more new council houses being completed, on display and ready to become real homes.

“These latest houses in St Mary’s are evidence of the council’s determination to support rural communities and to provide social housing right across Orkney.”
