Open day at Westray’s Brough House

In an event organised by the Westray Heritage Trust, Brough House, Westray, will open its doors to the public on Sunday, September 4, to celebrate the completion of the first phase of the restoration of the listed 18th century former laird’s house.

The restoration, which has reinstated the external look of the house and recreated the interior as it would have looked in its heyday 200 years ago, hit a low point in November, 2008, when a fire destroyed much of the wing as it neared completion.

Owner Mark Fresson — grandson of civil aviation pioneer Captain Ted Fresson — said: “After a three year comprehensive and meticulous restoration this old Orkney house will be open to the public from 1pm to 4.30pm on Sunday, September 4 with all monies raised going to the Westray Heritage Centre.”
