OIC warn of strike action

With strike action due to take place nationally, Orkney Islands Council (OIC) is warning of likely disruption to waste and recycling collection services from Friday, August 26 through to Monday, August 29.

The disruption is most likely to affect recycling collections, as OIC will prioritise staffing towards refuse and commercial waste collections. Although, all could be affected depending on how many choose to take strike action.

On Friday, August 26, the impacted areas are:

  • Refuse in area 13 and area 15
  • Recycling in area five.

On Monday, August 29 the impacted areas are:

  • Refuse in area one and area six
  • Recycling in area nine

The council say additional collections will not be arranged. The local authority advice that householders may wish to consider taking their refuse to the nearest HWRC or storing their recycling until the next collection date. Although it notes that HRWC’s may also close if the skips become full.
