OIC seeks feedback on proposed council house rent increases

Council house tenants are being encouraged to respond to a consultation on proposed rent increases for 2012/13.

The OIC is proposing to increase rents by 9.6 per cent from April 2012  — 4 per cent  plus RPI (Retail Price Index) of 5.6 per cent.

All council tenants will soon receive a leaflet outlining the way rents are calculated and how rental income is spent by the council. They will also receive a letter outlining the rent increase for their home, and a questionnaire with a reply-paid envelope for responding.

Once feedback from tenants has been received, all views will be taken into account and reported to councillors who sit on the social services and housing committee. The Committee will make a recommendation to the Full Council about how much to charge.

The consultation closes on Friday December 9.
