OIC advises caution after heavy snowfall

Orkney Islands Council are advising drivers to take care and allow plenty of time for journey, as much of the county experiences heavy snow coverage.

An OIC spokesman said, this afternoon, Sunday: “Following heavy falls of snow, a council snow plough was used overnight to clear and grit the main road between Stromness and St Margaret’s Hope.

”Today crews have been working since 6am to clear and grit the main routes, before switching to other principal roads. In some areas, diggers have been brought in to help to helps clear the deeper drifts.”
