The president of the National Union of Farmers in Scotland (NFUS), Allan Bowie, will be in Orkney tomorrow, meeting with local union members.

Mr Bowie will be speaking at the meeting of Orkney branch of the NFUS, tomorrow evening in the Ayre hotel.

Ahead of the meeting he said, top of the agenda will be Brexit.

He said: “Generally, the questions farmers are asking are to do with the uncertainty of Brexit and the markets.”

“What I’m trying to do is walk people through what we’re doing as a union and look at what needs to be addressed.

“Farmers know that Brexit, as an issue, is a marathon and won’t be sorted overnight but we’re trying to keep everyone up to date.”

Mr Bowie was recently one of a number of officeholders who met with the UK Government’s Secretary of State for environment, food and rural affairs, Andrea Leadsom MP, where the case for robust future trade deals for Scotland was put forward.
