New Stromness pitch open for business in new year

The new synthetic grass pitch in Stromness is undergoing final touches this week and will be open for bookings from January 5.

The pitch, which has been funded by the Scottish Government through the council’s £57m Schools Investment Programme, has a FIFA 1-star rating (ie suitable for county level football games) and a FIH rating for hockey.

Work on the pitch, which is located on the lower Stromness Academy playing field and accessible from public paths from the Academy and from the new Stromness Primary School site, started in August 2011.

Bookings for the facility will be coordinated by Stromness Academy and can be made by calling the Academy on 850660 from January 5.
