New Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet named

Lord-Lieutenant of Orkney, Bill Spence, presenting Cdt Bdr Danni Savage with a certificate, naming her as the Lord-Lieutenant’s cadet, on May 31.

A new Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet has been appointed in Orkney — Cadet Bombardier Dani Savage, from Kirkwall.

The Lord-Lieutenant’s cadets can be drawn from the Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, and the Air Training Corps. One from each to act as ambassador for their organisation and to assist the Lord-Lieutenant as required during his official duties.

Dani was chosen as she is Orkney’s most senior Army Cadet and has been deemed to be both responsible and well-behaved. She is also  a drummer with the National ACF Pipe and Drum Band  and has represented the county on a number of occasions, including at performances at Edinburgh Castle and at Balmoral for the Queen. Later this month she will be performing with the band on Horse Guards Parade, London.

The Lord-Lieutenant Capt, Bill Spence is the British monarch’s personal representative in the county. Historically, a Lord-Lieutenant was responsible for organising a county’s militia but it is today a largely ceremonial position.
