Police have confirmed the name of the man who sadly died after falling from cliffs at Yesnaby on Monday, he was tour guide Jamie Shannon from the Stirling area.

Police added: “Enquiries continue into the 23-year-old’s death, however there are no suspicious circumstances. Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Jamie at this very sad time.”

Graeme Ward, managing director of Edinburgh based tour company Haggis Adventures has paid further tribute to Mr Shannon, saying: “Jamie Shannon was a well-respected and much loved member of the Haggis Adventures team. With an infectious smile his passion for Scotland shone bright. He truly was an excellent guide who revealed in his role of showing off his homeland to the legions of young tourists who travelled with him.”

He added: “Wishes of condolence for the family and tributes for Jamie have flowed in all day from our partner visitor attractions and hostels including from other tour operators in Scotland whose guides knew him from the road.

“The tour guiding community in Scotland is very tight knit and the loss we feel is felt by all in the industry. We would like to thank all those who have sent us messages as well as the Orkney community and emergency services who helped tremendously during this difficult time. Our immediate thoughts are with Jamie’s family. It is a tragedy that such a bright Scottish light has been lost from us all.”

In today’s The Orcadian Mr Ward pays further tribute to those in the Orkney community who rallied round at the time of the accident.
