Kirkwall lifeboat launched this afternoon, Sunday, to assist in a search for a missing scallop diver in the Stronsay Firth.

Also involved in the search were the crew of the Olympic Challenger which was working at the EMEC marine renewables site close by.

The diver was spotted after being in the water for two hours and, according to the RNLI, was found 5 miles away from his dive boat.

After being recovered from the water by the fast rescue craft from the Olympic Challenger he was taken onboard the lifeboat to be assessed by the crew who are trained in first aid and casualty care.

The diver was found to be fit and healthy and was returned to his dive boat, the Courage which had arrived alongside the lifeboat.
