Mariners asked to avoid Fall of Warness installation

Mariners are being asked to avoid an area of water off Eday while a tidal energy device is installed.

Voith Hydro Ocean Current Technologies is planning to develop a full-scale demonstration of its Voith HyTide tidal energy converter at the EMEC tidal test facility at the Fall of Warness, off Eday.

Installation of the monopile foundation, using the offshore construction vessel North Sea Giant, incorporating a seabed drilling rig, is due to be undertaken from July 20, for approximately one week. The monopile will provide the support for the installation of the turbine during August/September 2012.

The monopile, 13m in height above seabed, will be located on the seabed within the EMEC tidal testing site at Fall of Warness.

Vessels are requested to avoid the area of works by at least 250m during the installation operations.
