Manifesto Group candidate elected

Orkney Manifesto Group candidate Rachael King has today been elected as the new councillor for Orkney’s West Mainland ward.

Following polling yesterday, today’s count declared Ms King, from Sandwick,  as the winning candidate, taking 51.3 per cent of the first preference votes.

Barbara Foulkes, standing as an independent candidate, took 38.6 per cent and Fiona Grahame, standing for the Green Party, took 9.9 per cent.

There were 1,154 valid ballot papers and five rejected ballot papers, with a 34 per cent turnout across the ward.

The declaration was made in the council chamber this morning.
