Lottery funding will see climbing wall installed at Picky

The Pickaquoy Centre looks set to receive £146,864 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Community Spaces scheme.

The funding will be used to construct an indoor climbing wall within the main arena at the leisure centre.

Welcoming the award, Mark Harrison, the general manager of the centre, said: “The board of trustees and staff at the centre were extremely excited to receive the letter from the Big Lottery Fund regarding the Community Spaces Scotland grant offer for the indoor climbing wall.

“The addition of this facility at the centre will not only support and develop climbing in Orkney, but will give the Orkney public and visitors to Orkney the opportunity to partake in a sport they may not have had the opportunity to do before.”
