Longhope lifeboat Caithness coastline search

LONGHOPE lifeboat was called out to Duncansby Head, Caithness, on Saturday afternoon, after reports of an abandoned pushchair on the cliff path.

The crew were paged at 12.05pm and, being already aboard the boat for a planned visit to Burray RNLI fundraising open day, were able to launch immediately.

With winds force 4 —6, good visibility and moderate sea conditions, the lifeboat quickly reached the area near John O’Groats, and proceeded to search a extensive stretch of the coastline to the west and north of Duncansby Head, as directed by the Coastguard.

The inflatable Y-boat was launched to to allow close inspection of the shoreline.

However, after a thorough search revealed no sign of any casualties, or anyone in distress, the crew was stood down.
