Libraries host book amnesty as New Year approaches

Libraries in Orkney have launched an appeal for the return of overdue books, as 2021 draws to a close.

Speaking on behalf of Orkney Library and Archive, a spokeswoman from Orkney Islands Council said: “It’s the season of goodwill, so if you have overdue library books from last month, last year, pre-lockdown, pre-millennium, pre-decimalisation, don’t worry.

“Just hand them in to the Kirkwall or Stromness Library, or pop them into one of the book-drop boxes, any time from now until December 24, and the wonderful library staff will waive any fees and clear your library account – ready for a fresh start in 2022.”
