Karen Aim Memorial fund artwork goes on display

An award-winning piece of art from New Zealand, by the artist Kate Bevin, is on display this week along with art and crafts from the East Mainland.

Ms Bevin is one of the first recipients of a scholarship from the Karen Aim Memorial Fund, which was started in Taupo, New Zealand, following Ms Aim’s tragic death there in 2008.

The scholarship is awarded annually to support two art students, who on the completion of their studies donate a piece of work for public display.

One of these pieces has now been gifted to Orkney, and the Aim family has chosen the East Mainland Kirk for its display.

Following a dedication service, attended by the Rev John Howell from New Zealand, on Sunday, the week-long exhibition, in the kirk, features art and craft work from the parishes of St Andrews, Deerness and Holm.

Arts in The East will be open from 1.30-5.30pm daily, in the Session Room, East Mainland Kirk, September 2-9. Admission is £2.
