Assistant Professor in Blue Economy and Marine Governance

Salary range £32,817-£49,553 depending on experience

Part time or Full time  

Location: HWU’s Orkney campus

We seek an early/mid-career academic in the broad field of marine governance, particularly those interested in socio-economic aspects. You will be based in Heriot-Watt University’s International Centre for Island Technology (ICIT) on our Orkney campus – a specialist postgraduate teaching and research centre focusing on management of coastal and island resources.

Teaching & Research: You will have a strong track record of research in marine resources and their management, with expertise in one or more of the following: marine/coastal governance and planning; allocation of marine resources; blue economy. We also welcome applications from candidates with research interests in environment/economy interactions generally, and in the implications of ‘net zero carbon’ for coastal communities. You will be developing and delivering innovative postgraduate teaching, including courses in marine planning, development appraisal and marine governance. You will supervise PhD students and publish high-impact research findings in industry-leading journals. You will be applying for funding and developing a research portfolio with a wider team of marine specialists within Heriot-Watt. Candidates will be expected to show the international relevance of their work.
