Impressive Orkney put four past Halkirk to continue excellent form

Owen Young brought his tally to four goals in two games against Halkirk United.

Orkney FC produced their most complete performance of the season to beat Halkirk United and continue their excellent form in the North Caledonian League.

Two goals from Owen Young, a Jamie Flett header and a Liam Delday strike put an impressive Orkney side on their way to a deserved 4-1 win over their opponents who finished the game with ten men.

The home side fell behind to an overhead kick from Korbyn Cameron but soon equalised when Young turned in a Flett cutback.

Provider turned scorer as Flett took full advantage of an excellent Jack Paterson ball from the right hand side, nodding the ball into the net to put Orkney ahead.

And when Young raced clear and made it 3-1 on 30 minutes, Orkney were in firm control.

Delday extended Orkney’s lead in the second half, sweeping home a Flett cross, and Orkney should have had more but chances were missed through substitutes David Delday and Andrew Mulraine.

Halkirk’s day went from bad to worse as they ended the match with ten men for dissent to linesman Jimmy Leask.

Loch Ness, who lost against Golspie Sutherland, still lead the way in the North Caledonian League on 33 points but Orkney are one of three teams on 27 points, ahead of a visit to Kirkwall by the league leaders next weekend.

If Orkney can replicate the performance they put together against Halkirk, it should be a firecracker.
