Ice warning in force as temperatures plummet

A yellow warning for ice has been issued by the Met Office, with icy patches expected in Orkney tonight, Wednesday, and tomorrow morning, as temperatures plummet to 0 °C overnight.

According to the weather forecasting service, ice is expected to develop on untreated surfaces, pavements and cycle paths and where showers wash off treatment. They have advised caution, as injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces are possible.

The chief forecaster’s assessment for the next 24 hours predicts showers of rain, sleet and snow, for the North of Scotland. Snow, however, is most likely inland and coastal areas exposed to the northerly winds are less likely to be affected.
