Housing design in the countryside — share your views

Orkney Islands Council is asking for views on housing design in the countryside.

The local authority have said any feedback received will help shape new planning policy advice, which is currently being developed.

To help with this, a drop-in session will be held at the King Street Halls, in Kirkwall, on Wednesday, May 16.

At the drop-in, feedback will be invited in response to four questions:

  • What makes Orkney’s countryside distinctive?
  • What design works well?
  • What design doesn’t work so well?
  • What is important to you in terms of design?

“The design advice we’re developing will help guide decisions on future planning applications,” said Susan Shearer, a senior planner with the Council.

“We’re calling the event ‘Design: Fitting Housing into the Countryside’ — and we hope to gather a broad range of views and ideas.

The drop-in runs from 12 noon to 6pm and all are welcome.
