Home owners asked to take part in housing survey

Orkney Islands Council is writing to around 500 householders to ask for their help with a new survey to provide a comprehensive picture of  housing conditions in the county.

Frances Troup, the OIC’s head of housing and homelessness, explained: “Like many other councils, we want to establish a clear and up-to-date assessment of what housing conditions are like throughout our community.

“The households we are contacting were chosen at random from addresses across the county. We’d encourage everyone who receives a letter about the survey to take part, whatever the condition of their home.

“The results will be invaluable in helping the council develop future housing strategies and ensuring any assistance is provided where it is most needed.”

The survey will be carried out by David Adamson and Partners, chartered surveyors who specialise in this type of project for Councils across Scotland.

OIC Environmental Health Manager David Brown said: “We would be grateful if householders contacted by the surveyors will allow them access to view their homes. The survey will take around 30 minutes to complete and all information gathered will be treated in the strictest confidence.”

Surveys will take place between August 24 and October 3. The surveyors will carry a photo card and identity pass from David Adamson and Partners. Householders should ask to see this before their survey is carried out.
