Helicopter mercy mission after pensioner falls

A 65-year-old man was airlifted to hospital in Aberdeen after falling from cliffs at the Broch of Birsay on Thursday afternoon.

Shetland Coastguard diverted the helicopter, which was on a training exercise, to the area.

The casualty is understood to have sustained a fractured skull, although his condition is not thought to be life threatening.
