Hamnavoe’s broken window “not weather-related” says NorthLink

NorthLink has cancelled today’s sailings across the Pentland Firth after a window was broken on one side of the ferry Hamnavoe, while on passage earlier this morning.

A spokesman said, however, that the breakage was nothing to do with the weather, or a freak wave.

The company is investigating the cause, however, it is believed that the window may have been faulty or fitted incorrectly.

Repairs were being carried out on the vessel once she docked at Stromness pier.

The next sailing is now expected to be tomorrow morning.
