Getting back to normal after a night of severe weather

Conditions on the Hatston Pier during Thursday night's storm, as photographed by Roy Karlsvik, the chief engineer on the Subsea Viking, which was moored at the time.

Folk in Orkney are picking up the pieces today after a night of severe gales on Thursday.

Households across the county were left without power, roads were closed and damage caused to property in winds reported to be over 100mph, gusting to at least 138mph.

All schools in Orkney are closed today, Friday, and although the wind has dropped compared to last night’s storm, there are still disruptions to transport.

For details of closures etc, see Radio Orkney’s facebook page.
