Funding boost for social housing in Orkney

Orkney Islands Council has been awarded £360k from the Scottish Government’s Innovation and Investment Fund towards its house building programme.

The funds announced by the Scottish Government will go towards the construction of 12 new Council homes at Watersfield in Kirkwall.

It adds to the £1.7m already secured by the council for its house building programme from the Scottish Government over the last two years, from the Incentivising New Council House Building Fund.

Also awarded assistance in the first funding announcement from the Innovation and Investment Fund is:

  • Orkney Housing Association Ltd: £737,401 towards 12 homes in Garson, Stromness.
  • Orkney Islands Property Development Ltd: £52,800 towards two “extra care” houses in Westray.
  • Orkney Builders (Contractors) Ltd: £150k for 10 homes in Kirkwall.
