Flooding in the East Mainland and linked South Isles

Orkney Islands Council have deployed flood prevention equipment in St Margaret’s Hope.

Reports of flooding have been coming in from both St Margaret’s Hope and Holm, with temporary flood prevention equipment is being deployed in St Margaret’s Hope.

With storm Caroline currently battering the Northern Isles, the multi-agency Orkney Local Emergency Co-ordinating Group (OLECG) is advising the community to be prepared for severe weather conditions.

Meanwhile, Orkney Islands Council have now shut all the schools and their roads team have advised that the Churchill barriers are currently closed, with a further review to be taken at 12pm. They have also advised folk on how they can take action if they are concerned about flooding and damage to property.

“If you are concerned about flooding today, then sandbags are available from the Council’s depots at Hatston and Garson and at all recycling centres,” a spokesman explained.
