Final leg of the St Magnus Way launches today

The first leg of the St Magnus way underway back in April.

The fifth and final leg of the St Magnus Way launches today, Thursday, as part of the Orkney International Science Festival.

Today, the walk launches at Orphir Kirk, with a ticketed event welcoming travel writer, Christopher Sommerville.

The walk itself is free, leaving Orphir Kirk at 11.15 and walking along the shore of Scapa Flow as much as possible to Kirkwall. The route is 11.7 miles of rough walking through the RSPB bird reserve at Waulkmill and then along the coast past Griffyelt to Greenigoe.

A short road section to Foveran then leads back to the coast to Scapa Beach, then on the Crantit Trail to Kirkwall, finishing with a short reflection at St Magnus Cathedral.
