Drama clubs join in GMB centenary celebrations

George Mackay Brown.

Two drama groups have teamed up to celebrate the centenary of one of Orkney’s most famous writers.

Paying tribute to George Mackay Brown’s (GMB’s) life and work, Stromness Drama Club and St Magnus Players will host a dual even on Sunday, October 17 — on what would have been the author’s 100th birthday.

Players from Stromness will take the stage at Stromness Town Hall in GMB’s Jock and Blind Mary. Beforehand, audiences will be treated to a pre-recorded performance of a play based on the writer’s life, A Hamnavoe Man by Pam Beasant, courtesy of St Magnus Players.

Tickets available from J.B. Rosey’s Stromness. More on this event in The Orcadian, available now online and in shops.
