Diver transferred to Orkney for treatment

A 37-year-old diver with decompression sickness was flown from Shetland to the hyperbaric chamber in Orkney today, Monday.

The man was transferred, by coastguard helicopter, from Lerwick for treatment in the Stromness-based chamber.

He was showing signs of decompression sickness following a dive on a wreck just outside Lerwick harbour, shortly after noon.

The helicopter 102 flew the casualty down to Kirkwall airport, where a waiting ambulance took the diver on to the medical centre, in Stromness, and then for treatment in the chamber.
