December trial date set for Dounby woman

A 40-year-old woman appeared from custody at Kirkwall Sheriff Court yesterday, and pleaded not guilty to driving offences alleged to have been committed on November 19.

Sharon Louise Jeffries, Quilco, Dounby, denied driving a car while disqualified and with an alcohol reading of 85 microgrammes in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeding the prescribed limit of 35 microgrammes. Jeffries also denied driving without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the road, by driving at excess speed when approaching the junction of the A965 Kirkwall to Stromness Road on Sunnybank Road, failing to slow down, crossing over the road and colliding with a dyke.

She pleaded not guilty to a further charge of failing to give information to the police.

The case against Jeffries will go to trial on December 22.

She was released on bail in the meantime.
