Council to cease glass collection for businesses at Cursitor Quarry

The collection point for glass bottles and jars from commercial businesses will no longer be available at Cursitor Quarry from tomorrow, Thursday, Orkney Islands Council is advising.

A skip at the quarry was temporarily put in place for this purpose a few years ago and has remained in use ever since.

Since then, the council has introduced the option of a kerbside collection for glass and other recyclable items from commercial premises.

In addition, a collection point for recyclable glass bottles and jars from businesses remains available at the Chinglebraes Waste Transfer Station.

According to OIC, with these options available to local businesses, it was decided not to replace the skip at Cursitor Quarry, which the council says is no longer fit for purpose.

Any businesses interested in the kerbside recycling collection can contact OIC’s Development and Infrastructure service on 01856 873535.

Households will still be able to dispose of glass and other recyclable items at Cursiter Quarry. The Chinglebraes facility can only be used by businesses.
