Council moves towards flexible working hours

Flexible working at Orkney Islands Council moved a step closer this week, and could be introduced by October 1.

If ratified by the full council, the council offices will be open from 8am until 6pm, Monday to Friday.

Islands councillors were told that a recent trial with the IT and education departments at the local authority had been a success.

At Tuesday’s policy and resources committee meeting, OIC chief executive, Albert Tait, said: “The general consensus is that this is a project worth pursuing.”

Councillors recommended that the flexi-time scheme be reviewed after a year.
