Council IT disruption this weekend
Some Orkney Islands Council facilities, such as schools, care homes and marine services, may face IT disruption this weekend as the council carries out further repairs to a vital fibre optic link which was damaged on November 5.
The work will take place between 10am and 4pm on Saturday, November 24, and will make permanent the emergency repairs put in place in the immediate aftermath of the incident.
The works are not expected to bring about the same level of disruption as the original incident which led to widespread IT problems at many of the council’s facilities. However, the planned downtime is vital to allow engineers access to the cabling and finalise repairs.
The council’s website will be unaffected and members of the public will be able to contact facilities at their usual phone numbers.
