Council congratulated on homelessness commitment

Orkney Islands Council is on track to achieve the 2012 commitment to give every unintentionally homeless person in the county the right to a home.

Latest homelessness statistics from the Scottish Government reveal that the number of homeless people assessed as a “priority” by the OIC stands at 99 per cent.

Shelter Scotland has congratulated the local authority for the advances it has made as it prepares to deliver Scotland’s historic 2012 homelessness reforms, which will see an end to current system where only those people deemed to be in “priority need” have the right to a home.
