Corse West earmarked for new hospital complex

Following meetings of NHS Orkney and Orkney Islands Council yesterday, the site of a proposed new hospital for Orkney has been agreed.

The new care campus is earmarked for Corse West, an area near the Pickaquoy Centre in Kirkwall.

Chairman of NHS Orkney, John Ross Scott said: “This is a historic day for NHS Orkney. What we have before us is the full and extensive paperwork on the Care Campus and I congratulate and commend all those who have put in such a mammoth amount of  work into getting us to this stage.

“Many of us have been frustrated about the time it has taken but it should not be forgotten that the Care Campus, being provided at a cost of between £65-75million, is likely to be the biggest project in Orkney’s history and the biggest investment in a project that NHS Orkney will ever undertake.”

The route to procuring the site will be finalised for a joint meeting of NHS Orkney and OIC on October 25.
