Charollais gimmer from Muce takes top sheep title at Dounby

The winner of the sheep section at this year’s Dounby show was a home-bred Charollais gimmer shown by Sheena Coghill of Muce Farm, Birsay.

Ronnie Brown from Newhall, Stromness, took the overall reserve title with his Beltex ewe lamb.

Despite numbers being considerably lower than in past years, partly due to a number of exhibitors attending the Carlisle sheep sales, judge Ewen MacLean from Inverness was impressed by what he saw.

Commenting on the champion, he said: “There was nothing wrong with it – it’s as simple as that. It’s a great sheep.”
