Busses breakdown in wake of Storm Caroline

Stagecoach have confirmed that two of their vehicles broke down this morning, due to the adverse weather conditions.

One of these incidents, which occurred at the beachfront at Scapa, involved a school bus. According to Stagecoach, the vehicle encountered difficulties after driving through a particularly large puddle.

“We deployed two alternative buses and all the school children were safely escorted from the bus to these vehicles,” a Stagecoach employee explained.

The company have confirmed that a second breakdown also took place on the Kirkwall to Finstown road, but said that the bus was not carrying passengers at that time.

All Stagecoach buses in Orkney have now been cancelled due to safety concerns. An employee said that, otherwise, there may have been a risk of further breakdowns and metal panels coming loose from the vehicles due to high wind speeds.
