Budget boost for NHS Orkney

NHS Orkney is to benefit from a share of £8.802 billion in revenue funding from the Scottish Government in 2012-13.

The health board will see the board’s 2012-13 funding allocation of £32.8 million rise to an indicative £33.7 million.

Gerry O’Brien, finance director for NHS Orkney, said: “NHS Orkney is pleased that the draft allocations contained within the 2011 Scottish Spending Review have been confirmed by the Scottish Government. Although financial plans for 2012/2013 have yet to be finalised, this significant additional funding to Orkney will be targeted to frontline services.  We will continue to face considerable budgets challenges and our focus will remain on improving the quality of care by prioritising changes which deliver greater efficiencies.

“Our capital funding will be geared towards backlog maintenance and improvement measures to ensure that Orkney continues to provide healthcare in fit for purpose facilities.”
