Bee keepers urged to get in touch

Two researchers from Newcastle University will be visiting Orkney next week to explore the culture of non-commercial beekeeping, and the situation of individual beekeepers, through a comparative study of beekeeping in Orkney and County Durham.

Karen Scott and Sue Bradley will be in Orkney from Saturday 20 to Friday 26 August, and would like to hear from people who keep bees now or have kept them in the past.

They aim to find out what beekeeping means for those involved, to consider how this can be communicated to the general public and to policy makers, and to explore how the contribution made by beekeepers to the environment and the economy can be more widely recognised.

To contact Karen or Sue phone 0191 222 6623 or email karen.scott@ncl.ac.uk or sue.bradley@ncl.co.uk.
