Appeal against murder conviction begins next month

An appeal date — February 7-10, 2012 — has now been set in the case of convicted murderer Michael Ross.

Hearings into the appeal against his conviction and sentence have been withdrawn on three previous occasions. Ross was sentenced to 25 years in prison at the High Court in Glasgow in October, 2008 — more than 14 years after the killing of waiter, Shamsuddin Mahmood.

Ross was also sentenced to a further five years after leaping from the dock and trying to escape, after being found guilty of the crime.
