Aberdeen harbour improvements

Travel disruption for Orkney and Shetland ferry passengers should be eased this winter following an announcement that Aberdeen Harbour Board has awarded a £5.2m contract involving major improvements to the port entrance, and for widening and deepening the navigation channel.

The deeper entrance to the port should assist in addressing the occasional disruption to traffic movements during periods of easterly gales, which has at times in the past seen NorthLink ferries diverted from Aberdeen to Rosyth, an extra long journey in sometimes heavy seas.
