11 COVID-19 cases recorded in Orkney

Orkney has recorded 11 cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, according to data published by the Scottish Government.

This brings the case total since the pandemic began to 1,069.

On the latest COVID guidance, a spokeswoman from NHS Orkney said:

“From Saturday 11 December all household contacts of confirmed cases, Omicron or not, need to isolate for 10 days regardless of vaccination status or a negative PCR result. Non-household contacts can end isolation after receiving a negative PCR result if double vaccinated and have no symptoms. These changes to isolation for household contacts of COVID-19 will have an impact across the community, and NHS Orkney has robust business continuity plans to help us deliver our key services. We would encourage the community both individuals and businesses to be mindful of these new rules and ensure they are prepared if they are requested to isolate for 10 days.”

NHS Orkney explained that regular lateral flow tests, when you are showing no symptoms, are vital to ensuring we can keep ourselves safe and identify positive cases as early as possible.

Additionally, if you are travelling back to Orkney from anywhere abroad, please follow the latest regulations regarding PCR tests and self-isolation. Lateral flow tests before leaving the islands and returning are still encouraged by the Scottish Government.

If you do develop any COVID symptoms or have a positive lateral flow test, self isolate with your household immediately and seek a PCR test. As a reminder, booking is not required for PCR tests in Orkney, you can just drive to the COVID Testing Centre (Old Balfour) and you will be instructed from there on the next steps. If you do require support for COVID testing or can’t drive to the centre, please call 0300 303 9545.
