Volunteers and recruits wanted for police youth programme

Orkney Police are looking for volunteers to assist in setting up a new youth programme in the county.

The Police Scotland Youth Volunteer (PSYV) programme aims to:

  • promote a practical understanding of policing amongst all young people,
  • encourage a spirit of adventure and good citizenship,
  • support the local policing priorities through volunteering and give young people a change to be heard,
  • inspire young people to participate positively in the community.

Established in 2013, the programme was piloted in five Scottish areas. Due to its success, it is now being launched across the country.

In Orkney, police want to recruit ten adult volunteers, who can commit to three hours a month to assist with the running of the programme. In addition, they are looking for 24 young people, between the ages of 13 and 16, to take part in the scheme.
