Uncertain future for Crafty caravan site

The future of Kirkwall’s Crafty caravan site is to be discussed by local councillors, with a recommendation that the site be sold to make way for affordable housing.

The last tenant of the caravan site left late last year and the recommendation put to the members of Orkney Islands Council’s education leisure and housing committee, during their meeting tomorrow, is that the site be declared surplus to requirement and sold to Orkney Housing Association so that houses can be built on the land.

According to a council report, Orkney Islands Council has been looking to redevelop the site for many years as it represents a prime development site in central Kirkwall.

It is also stated in the report that the maximum number of properties that could be developed is 16, but it is much more likely that 10 or 12 properties will be developed on the site.
