Swannay Brewey’s Island Hopping has taken second place in a UK-wide beer competition.

At the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) National Craft Beer Awards, the West Mainland brewery’s beer was pipped to the top spot of Supreme Champion of the Cask Beer Competition by Williams Dark, which is produced by the Alloa-based Williams Bros Brewing company.

The beers were judged over five days and the awards, which are touted by SIBA as the biggest of their kind, were announced at the BeerX event in Sheffield last Friday evening.

It has been a successful month for Swannay Brewery, as they recently celebrated a hat-trick of wins at the 2017 International Brewing Awards, with Sneaky Wee Orkney Stout taking gold in the awards’ International Dark Beer section, while Light Munro claimed silver in Class 1 of the International Cask Ale competition.

The brewery’s Pale Ale also scooped bronze in its section of the cask ale category.
