The sun shone and the crowds flocked to Shapinsay for the 2017 agricultural show today.

Show president Frazer Leslie said that as far as the weather, visitor numbers, and entries were concerned, the day could not have gone any better.

At the end of the days judging, under bright sunshine and blue skies, it was celebration time for Philip and Moira Miller of Ha’quoy who took the cattle championship for the very first time with a home-bred April-born Limousin cross heifer calf.

In the sheep championship it was an as delighted Emma Rendall of Braefoot who took top spot with a homebred, three-crop, Texel ewe.

Champion horse was Aofie, also known as McGowan’s May Be, a 3-year-old Irish draft cross, shown by Gemma Leslie of Quoymorhouse.

The poultry section was won by Andy and Val More of Veantro, with a 2-year-old Black Rock speckled hen.

A delighted first time exhibitor Val, who had a busy day at the show, had two further reasons to celebrate, winning the goat section with a 3-year-old Saanen nanny goat, and winning the dog section with Ben, a year-and-a-half-old Border Collie.

Bethany Hall won the pet show with her New Zealand White rabbit.
