Softback

Set on a farm high in an Orkney dale in the years after World War Two, Siggy tells the story of an eleven-year-old boy struggling to cope with the aftermath of his father's death and his mother's quick re-marriage. We follow him through a year of his life, as he gets into mischief with his friend, Pete, deals with bullying at school, seeks solace from his beloved grandmother and finally comes to terms with his situation and looks forward to his future.

Susan Leonard was born on a farm in Orkney and went to school in the post war years. She studied for an M.A. degree at Aberdeen University and taught in Ayr and Thurso before returning to teach in Orkney with her Orcadian husband and children. Now retired, she thought about writing book for years before actually doing it. The result was Siggy.
